Concrete is an extremely strong, durable, and resilient material. As a result, breaking through it (either intentionally or not!) is no mean feat.
As a result, in order to cut through concrete, you’ll need to enlist the assistance of a trained concrete sawing professional, who will use a specialist saw for the task.
To help you get a better sense of what’s involved in the process of concrete sawing, below, we’ve outlined the different types of concrete sawing, and the types of saws that are used.
At BritCut, our skilled team provides a range of concrete sawing services, ensuring an effective and dependable solution for all the clients we work with.
Ring sawing is widely used in cutting through hard construction materials, including concrete. It involves using a piece of specialist handheld machinery, which features a diamond tipped ring saw blade.
Within the ring saw’s circular blade, the blade drive rollers are fitted at the blade’s rear (near the handle, rather than just in the middle). This means that almost the entire blade depth can be used to cut with, making them ideally suited to cutting up to depths of 300mm.
Ring saws are ideally suited for creating perfectly square corners and clean, straight lines. As a result, they are widely used to create or enlarge openings such as windows, doors, and lift shafts.

As its name suggests, floor sawing is one of the most effective ways to cut through horizontal floor surfaces. Floor saws can cleanly cut through hard construction surfaces such as concrete, asphalt and granite (at depths of up to 400mm). As a result, floor sawing is widely used in concrete slabs, or roads, pavements and runways, and construction, roadworks, and demolition projects (to name a few).
Floor saws feature large spinning diamond tipped blades to cut clean straight lines through the flooring’s surface. These are integrated into a walk-behind machine.

Wall sawing (also known as track sawing) is the fastest and most precise way to cut reinforced concrete walls and flooring. Track saws can make both vertical and horizontal cuts, and can cut to a 800mm depth.
This method is a great option for projects where floor saws can’t be used (such as a multi-storey building). Wall sawing is used in a wide range of different applications, including forming angled cuts, sawing through concrete staircases, and creating (or widening) window, door, and lift shaft openings.

Wire sawing is one of the most traditional ways of cutting through hard materials as it was initial utilised within the quarrying industry. It features a diamond encrusted flexible steel wire, which uses a series of pulleys to cut through the material.
Wire sawing can create cuts at any angle that is required. Plus, thanks to the thinness of the diamond wire, wire sawing creates a brilliantly smooth cut face.
As a result, wire sawing is widely used in projects that require the removal of large areas of heavily reinforced concrete or large metal structures (particularly on sites where access is limited, or other methods of removal or demolition are made impossible).
