Why choose BritCut for your Ring Sawing

Diamond ring sawing is a highly effective cutting technique that can be applied to a wide range of hard materials such as concrete, brick and blockwork. There are numerous advantages to employing ring saws when cutting concrete, especially when perfect corners are required, and overcutting must be avoided.

WHAT IS RING SAWING?

Ring sawing, also known as diamond ring sawing, is a way to cut through many hard construction materials using a piece of specialist handheld machinery with a diamond tipped ring saw blade. Being handheld makes them the perfect choice for when space and access is limited on site.

Our ring saws are all hydraulic which means they produce zero fumes, make very little noise, and can achieve a greater cutting depth than their petrol counterparts. This makes them ideal for indoor cutting applications.

The circular blade of a ring saw is unique in that the blade drive rollers are fitted at the rear of the blade near the handle instead of in the middle of the blade, giving you use of almost the entire blade depth to cut with. As we gain use of the entire blade with a ring saw, they are ideally placed to cut up to depths of 300mm. This extra cutting depth makes them brilliant for cutting concrete walls and double-skin brick walls.

WHAT CAN RING SAWING BE USED FOR?

For the most precise finish, we use a ring saw as they are ideal for creating perfectly square corners and clean, straight lines. Our highly skilled operatives would make use of this plant to create or enlarge openings that require a degree of perfection such as windows, doors, and lift shafts.

By choosing BritCut as your ring sawing contractor you will have access to our expansive industry knowledge with a level of precision that sets us apart in London, Kent and Essex. Our customer focused approach ensures clear communication, transparency, and a personalised approach to every project. We have a range of concrete cutting services from ring sawing to track and floor sawing to help you transform your project with quality, efficiency, and safety at the forefront of everything we do.

Frequently asked questions — ring sawing

What is ring sawing?

Ring sawing uses a circular blade mounted on an arm, driven by a hydraulic or electric power unit. Unlike floor sawing, a ring saw can be used by hand in tight spaces — ideal for stairwells, doorways, confined plant rooms, and anywhere a large floor saw cannot manoeuvre.

What depth can a ring saw achieve?

Typically up to 270mm in a single pass, depending on blade diameter. For deeper cuts, we cut from both faces or combine ring sawing with wall sawing or core drilling.

Is it suitable for reinforced concrete?

Yes. Diamond-tipped ring saw blades cut through reinforced concrete, though we always recommend a ferro scan first to confirm rebar positions and ensure the cut path is structurally acceptable.

Can ring sawing be used on walls and vertical surfaces?

Yes. Ring saws can be used on vertical faces, overhead surfaces, and in any orientation — one of their key advantages over floor-mounted machines. Particularly useful for cutting through walls in confined spaces where a track saw cannot be mounted.

How does ring sawing compare to angle grinding?

Ring saws use purpose-made diamond blades and water cooling — they cut faster, cleaner, and more safely than angle grinders for concrete work. Angle grinders are not appropriate for structural concrete cutting.
